We´ve Got Company

Hey all,

It´s been CRAZY here these past few days... there was a strike in Peru on the 9th, and in many of the cities people could not get out. The creative ministry team was stuck in another town, as the people there had put rocks in the streets to make sure that no one got through. Fortunately in Laramate no one really seemed to care that there was a strike. Our stateside team was able to get here on the 9th since they took all mountain roads, but apparently they were yelled at by a man who said they should not be traveling on strike day.

We were supposed to teach at school that day, but the teachers were on strike... basically they marched around town smiling because they had a day off from work. We had our first group Bible study with three of the professors from the Institute, which went relatively well. After our Syracuse team got here, the guys went to study with Martin, and the girls went to study with Sonya. Martin´s wife was at the study, and she received Christ! Edgardo, a Puerto Rican, is on the Syracuse team, and he is able to share fluently, which is awesome.

We spent Thursday in Ocana, one of our other partner villages, and several people received Christ there. They wanted us to stay and share the Bible with them. They were very receptive, and we hope to be able to send more long-term teams there in the future. Yesterday, Friday, we went to Llaute, as Laramate, Llaute, and HuacHuas were competing in sports. Five people received Christ there. We also met Lourdes´uncle. He has a huge house and plenty of spare beds, and said that if we ever come through there, we can stay with him. We shared stories, and peanut butter (the cuse team brought us peanut butter!) and ate some really good bread... also, the creative ministry team showed up! Good times. We spent yesterday evening in Laramate, playing gams and singing with the kids.

This afternoon the creative ministry team is going to do their presentation. Please pray for them. Tomorrow is Alex´s birthday (the son of our restaurant family) and we´re going to make pancakes for him! There are 14 gringos here right now, so it´s a little overwhelming, but we´re having a ton of fun and are also excited to welcome a new team member, Ally, to our team!

On a personal note, my Syracuse email address had 624 messagfes when I opened it this morning, and it´s full of spam... if i´ve spammed anyone, i apologize, but if anyone knows what´s going on with that, please let me know... it´s pretty anoying.

Miss you all and am praying for you! Two weeks from today we head back to Lima, so please pray that we´ll have some sustainable groups going by that time.

Liz
